Back when I first heard about microformats, I was pretty blown away. Even now I’m designing things that I’m pretty sure I can trace back to the realizations I had with microformats. Back around the first BarCamp, I was working on something called Microseek, which does exactly what Technorati’s new Microformats Search does.

Obviously, with Tantek working there, I figured they’d get around to making theirs. I got pretty far myself and even had a working prototype about 10 months ago. Apparently, 4 months later somebody more active in the community launched a similar proof of concept service inspired by Google Base called Microformat Base.

Like most of my projects, I had big ideas for Microseek, but ultimately it did not fit in my long term goals. Right around now I sort of wish I kept going. I feel bad I didn’t at least tell the community about it or release the code. By now, it’s probably not as good as what the community has.

Anyway, I was really excited when Tantek posted about working on a cool new project and I was pretty surprised to find out it was a Technorati microformat search engine. Very nicely done. Now I know why he was so scruffy at the last DevHouse.
