Last Serious Mention of Web 2.0
The only time I ever really bring up Web 2.0 is to talk about the metahype and make fun of it. I would never use it to describe what I’m doing, even though I probably could. I don’t hate it, but I try to avoid it as much as possible.
Lots of people have voiced their opinion about this term, the surrounding hype, and the possible bubble created by it. Recently, the dust has started to settle. This seems to have been the cue for Paul Graham to write his one and only essay on Web 2.0.
Unlike most interpretations, including my own, Paul Graham really gets into the origins of the term and describes probably the most literal meaning. He clearly stated everything I believe and more, with anecdotes and classic Paul Graham style.
It just means doing things right, and it’s a bad sign when you have a special word for that.
For me, it closes the discussion. We all had our fun seriously talking, debating, and grokking about Web 2.0, but now it’s time to get back to work. From now on, the only mention of “Web 2.0″ should be to make fun of it.

Okay, so I ran “web 2.0″ in the slut-o-meter,
and got this:
“Promiscuity: 8.24% (1500000 / 18200000)”

I’d say it’s much sluttier than that.
